My first experiences working professionally with people in service was with Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) in 1980. I educated people in rural communities about energy conservation and renewable energy technologies. Since then I have been a leader in environmental and spiritual organizations. I received my Master's degree in Geology in 1980 and worked in that profession for several years. In 1992 I completed my Master's degree in Applied Behavioral Sciences from the Leadership Institute of Seattle.

When I left your office last time I felt content and I heard myself saying to myself "I am fine. It all fits and it's all me. Thank you. What a gift to be reminded that I am beautiful."

Since 1992 my experience includes working with at-risk teenage children and their families for the Washington State Family Reconciliation Services; working in a private clinic specializing in psychotherapy for gay men and lesbian women; and, since 1998, counseling in private practice developing men's therapy groups, couples and marriage counseling, family therapy and, of course, individual therapy.

"Our marriage is thriving. Thanks again for helping us through a dark time. Your work goes a long and wonderful way"

Since 2004 I've been exploring improvisational play as a sacred clown and Interplay leader-in-training. In June 2006 I earned a Certified Geriatric Mental Health Counselor certificate from the University of Washington. My goal is to be a sacred clown for the forgotten elders of the community in hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

I'm a yogi (one who practices yoga meditation as a spiritual discipline), gardener, and avid outdoor enthusiast. I consider myself to be a philanthropist by giving volunteer time and donations to organizations that help heal society from discrimination in healthcare, promote social and environmental justice, and foster spiritual equanimity.

"Steven Gary has been my therapist for over a year. During this time, he has helped me to grow in compassion for myself, to reconnect with my spirituality in a deep and meaningful way, and to make major changes that I have wanted for a very long time but felt were impossible. He has challenged me to grow and to listen to myself, to others, and to that still small voice of God found in the silence between breaths. I will always be thankful for the path we have walked together."
